Phyllis Zhang holds a Doctorate of Education in Applied Linguistics from Columbia University, New York. She has also been certified by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) as an Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) Tester for Chinese. Dr. Zhang’s linguistic research has focused on functional grammar and Chinese syntax with a special interest in word order and its pragmatic functions. Her recent research focuses on second language acquisition through technology-enhanced and proficiency-oriented instruction.
Dr. Zhang is the author of Ni Wo Ta: An Introductory Course. She is also the principal author of the intermediate-level textbook, David and Helen in China, (Yale University Press, 1999, 2003) and the author of the intermediate-advanced textbook, 表达:Developing Chinese Fluency (Cengage Learning Asia, 2010). Dr. Zhang received the 2004 Tuttle Language Grant Award for a textbook project, and an Innovative Multimedia Materials Award at the Ninth International Conference on Chinese Language Teaching and Research (Beijing, 2008). Dr. Zhang currently teaches at The George Washington University and serves as Director of MA in Chinese Language and Culture program in the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures. She has been the Technology and Pedagogy editor of Journal of Technology and Chinese Language Teaching (JTCLT) since 2010, and served on the Board of Chinese Language Teachers Association (CLTA), USA in 2012-2014. |

Dr. Yong Ho is the Chinese Language Supervisor at the UN. He was born and grew up in Nanjing, China. He taught English at a university in China before he came to study at Columbia University to pursue a doctoral degree. He received his Ph.D. in anthropology/ linguistics in 1992. Before coming to the UN, he served as the Director of Curriculum and Language at China Institute, and taught at New School University. His publications include Aspects of Discourse Structure in Mandarin Chinese, Beginner's Chinese, Intermediate Chinese, China: An Illustrated History, A Children's Dictionary of Chinese, A Chinese-English Dictionary and Phrasebook, A Practical English-Chinese and Chinese-English Dictionary, and A Concise Chinese-English Usage Dictionary, A Study Guide to 500 Most Essential Chinese Words. |

Yuan-Yuan Meng is a senior lecturer in Chinese at Columbia University. She has taught classes from elementary to advanced levels, including Readings in Modern Chinese, Media Chinese, and a winter Business Chinese workshop for Columbia’s Center for International Business Education and Research. She is also an Oral Proficiency Interview tester certified by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. Her research interests include formulaic language, formative assessment, second language reading, second language vocabulary acquisition, and stylistic features of Chinese journalistic language. She co-authored the intermediate Chinese text, David and Helen in China. |
Robert Moore co-wrote the Learn About The Culture section of the Ni Wo Ta Introductory program with Li Wei.
Robert Moore is a professor of anthropology at Rollins College and Director of the International Affairs program for the college's Holt School. He received a Ph.D. from the University of California at Riverside in 1981 based on field work in Hong Kong. From 1993 to 94, he was a visiting professor on the faculty of Qingdao University in the People's Republic of China. He has published a number of articles on contemporary China in Ethnology, The Journal of Sociolinguistics, and Language and Communication Quarterly. His current research is on youth culture, Internet slang and culture change in contemporary China. |
Li Wei co-wrote the Learn About The Culture section of the Ni Wo Ta Introductory program with Robert Moore.
A native of Shanghai, Li Wei graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1981, and later pursued his postgraduate studies at Columbia University (M.A. and M.Phil. in Ethnomusicology). He teaches at Rollins College and is Coordinator of Chinese Studies. His research interests include computer-assisted technology in Chinese language teaching, language ideology, globalization and world music, and musical hybridity. His articles and reviews appeared in Garland Encyclopedia of World Music, Ethnomusicology, Yearbook of Traditional Music, and Asian Music. |
